Introduction of AABI

The Association of Avian Biologists in India (AABI) was registered on the 3rd April 2018 in Aizawl, Mizoram. The purpose of the society is to provide a common platform to Scientists, Researchers, Faculty members, Students, Bird watchers, and NGOs interested in any aspect of birds ranging from their ecology, physiology, breeding biology, conservation or bird watching.

Biological

Birds are ubiquitous organisms that are popular across cultures, landscapes; and even across research themes. This meeting brings together researchers using birds as a study / model systems to understand various biological phenomena.

Researchers

Researchers from a variety of fields,ranging from physiology, chronobiology, endocrinology, behaviour, behavioural ecology,bioacoustics,ecology, evolutionary biology, and bird watchers can be a part of this society.

About

Aim of the society is to bring awareness about the bird and its biological significance among the general public and to motivate about their conservation.

Association of Avian Biologists in India (AABI)

Membership

AABI offers life membership in two categories:

Regular Life membership (10 years)

  • Anyone (Faculties/ Scientists/Post-doctoral fellows, etc.) who is willing to apply for society membership except students
  • Membership Fee: 6000

Student membership

  • Students (undergraduate/postgraduate/PhD/ project fellows) are eligible for student membership.
  • Membership Fee: 2500
  • This membership will stand for total of 5 years, irrespective of the change in the members’ designation.

Sixth Meeting
  • The National Symposium on Avian Biology 2025, in conjunction with the 6th annual meetingof the Association of Avian Biologists of India, was held at theIndian Institute of ScienceEducation and Research (IISER) Mohali from March 10–12, 2025. Convener: Dr.ManjariJain, Department of Biological Sciences, IISER Mohali. The symposium aimed tobring together researchers who work in India on various aspects of avian biology, aspiringstudents, policymakers, and citizen scientists to build bridges between science, education,outreach andpolicy-making for a sustainable future.
